Acupuncture: An Explanation

March 20, 2018

When we suggest acupuncture as a course of treatment to our clients, a lot of them ask how it works.

Here's the Eastern Philosophy of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture:

TCM is based on the yin and yang philosophy (opposing forces which, when balanced, keep the body healthy). Energy, or “qi” flows through the body along specific pathways (aka meridians). Each of these pathways corresponds with a particular internal organ system (e.g. digestive, immune etc.). The constant flow of energy keeps the yin and yang in balance. Sometimes however, the flow of energy gets blocked which leads to physical and/or emotional pain or illness. By placing small needles on different points along the meridians, the blocked energy can be released and the various systems of our body are stimulated, leading our body’s natural healing response to kick in. This is how acupuncture helps resolve that pain or illness 😊
